2015 Troop Election Season

Ordeal Sash LogoThe Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of American. The purpose of the Order, is to recognize those campers (Scouts and Scouters) who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Each year a Boy Scout Troop may request for an OA Election to be conducted. Those Scouts elected will become Ordeal Candidates and be eligible to participate in the Ordeal. Adult leaders many also be considered for candidacy if at least one youth is elected from their troop. Adult candidates are selected directly by the Unit Leader, instead of elected by the youth. In order for a Scout or Scouter to be eligible for candidacy, they must meet the following requirements.

Youth Requirements

  • Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Hold the First Class rank or above.
  • Have experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more then one, long term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.

Adult Requirements

  • Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Be 21 years of age or older at time of selection.
  • Have experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more then one, long term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.

Troops with scouts who meet the youth qualifications may request to have an OA Election conducted. Troop Elections are provided and organized by Chapter Election teams.

Troops that belong to either the Casco-Bay District, K-Valley District, or York District should contact their district’s OA Chapter Adviser or Chief to request for an election. Troops that belong to the Abnaki District may request for an election online.
